Neighbor,
Not in FORTY years have a community and region come together like SW Florida has over the wanton destruction of our River and estuary system.
The long range plan is in place and funded to resolve this problem and insure it doesn't recur. There is NOT a short term solution in place, and we must keep the heat on to implement one.

The time is RIGHT NOW to demand that we will NOT be the only communities to shoulder this burden. The agricultural industry has profited enough at our expense and they MUST share some of the consequences of these measures that were put in place to benefit them alone.

There are really two seasons in Florida: too much water, and not enough water. The long range plan to drop the level of the Lake by five and a half feet and construct storage facilities already planned and funded does not answer our clear and immediate need, and that is to send this five feet of Lake water ELSEWHERE.

Please attend THE RESTORE OUR WATERS FORUM at Big Arts on November 10th at 6:30pm. Click here for WATERS FORUM link for a schedule of speakers.

ALSO, this coming Wednesday, October 19th, at 9:00 a.m., a representative from the South Florida Water Management District is scheduled to appear before the Marine Advisory Commission at McKenzie Hall (City Council Chambers) at Sanibel City Hall. The Hall only holds 82 people, but isn't it important for us to demonstrate our displeasure over their actions?

Poisoning our water.

In the last few years, we have been taking notice of the changes in the waters starting from late spring all the way into November, sometimes even December. That would be up to six months out of the year. The change starts with our green/blue clear water getting dark and murky. Soon, you cannot see more than 6 inches beneath the surface of the water. The color changes to brown, then the huge amount of dead sea grass start to float on top of the water. The color goes from brown to rust color. Shortly after the rust color, foam starts to float in.
